Where is Inking Kombi?
Anywhere in Melbourne and surrounds! We’re a pop-up art experience, which means we come to you or the most convenient place near you. That might be your school, sports club or even your own driveway!
Can I host Inking Kombi in a park?
Yes. Some councils ask you to apply for a permit for parties over a certain number of guests, and will ask for details of your party contractor (that’s us). So we’ll give you what you need to get the local council permit, such as insurance details. We’ll leave the Kombi in the designated parking area and run the activity in a suitable spot in the park.
What if it rains?
We’re in Melbourne, so you can guarantee it’s gonna happen…that’s why we have a special Inking Tent. It’s big, orange and all kitted out for our workshops! We can also run the workshops indoors – we just ask that the Old Girl is parked nearby so we can use her in the whole experience.
Who runs Inking Kombi?

Do you really use Kombi parts?
Absolutely! Some parts come from our VW Kombi, others are donated by the friendly guys at the garage where the Old Girl has her check-ups. You’ll be happy to hear we don’t use parts that the Old Girl needs anymore 😉 Except her spare tyre, which we always pop back onto the front of the bus – ink and all!
How long is a workshop?
Anywhere from 1 hour to four weeks! We provide experiences for birthday parties, school holidays, incursions, festivals and more, which means we will design the workshop to suit you. Want one hour of pure Inking Kombi creative fun? Done. Want to make lanterns and sculptures from your prints? You got it! Love for your kids to learn drawing and collage too? Your wish is our command.
What age groups do you work with?
We’ve found that kids between ages 5 to 12 get the best rewards from Inking Kombi. That said, we’re big believers that everyone young and old should get stuck in. That means you too, grandpa!
How much time do you need for set up?
We like to have 45 minutes to get everything ready (especially if we need to set up the Inking Tent) but this can be reduced a little if necessary. It takes around 20 minutes for us to pack down and leave the venue.
How much does Inking Kombi cost?
We aim to be as budget friendly as possible. So, we work out the price based on how many hours, how many people, and special considerations (such as whether you want to create lanterns or badges from your prints). Send us an email or call us to tell us what you want and we’ll give you a quick quote. Please note, we require 50% deposit to secure the booking.
What’s included in the price?
Heaps of fun, colour and unforgettable experiences! Oh, you mean practical things? We cover all the essentials:
- 2 Inking Extraordinaires (that’s us)
- Everything required for the inking (non-toxic inks, rollers, parts, kombi)
- Public Liability insurance
- Tent, tables and roped-off area (aka Special Inking Zone)
- Tarps to cover ground area
- Art aprons for participants (not to keep but you can buy!)
- Inking Kombi badges for participants (these you can keep!)
Is it safe?
It sure is! We are right there with the participants at all times, so there’s no risk of them driving off in the Kombi. For younger participants, we can also rope off a special inking zone to ensure everyone stays within a safe area. We only use kid-friendly, water-based ink. We also have up-to-date first aid certification.
Is it messy?
DEFINITELY – all the best fun is! We provide aprons for all participants and recommend that you dress for mess. Our inks are water-based and washable, but we still recommend that you save that special tailor-made princess outfit for another occasion! (We’re talking to you, grandma!)
Do you hold Working With Children Checks?
Yes. Absolutely. We can show you our WWCC cards if needed. (Just promise not to laugh at the photos!)
Are you insured?
Yes. We can send you details of our Public Liability Insurance if needed.
What about first aid?
Yup. We hold up-to-date first aid certification too.
